CSR – Toy Collection Drive 2017

Indira National School conducted a Toy collection drive for under privileged children. Students from Grades I to X collected toys, board games, puzzles & building blocks. When children outgrow the toys and sports gear in most households they end up in trash. Indira National School took the unique initiative to encourage the students to identify their toys, puzzles and sports gears which were not being used but were in good condition.  Over a period of one week, every day during assembly student volunteers spoke to the students about the importance of contributing to this drive and encouraged all to go back home and sieve through their treasure boxes to identify the toy they would love to share with another child who is not so privileged.  The hard work yielded good result.  The school collected 210 big cartons of toys, puzzles, sports gear and building blocks.  Student volunteers worked diligently over a span of one week to segregate the toys, pack them into boxes and label them for easy identification and distribution. While packing the toys for distribution the joy of new packs of toys were sometime marred by the frustration of some broken discarded toys also being contributed. A learning experience for the student volunteers who sharpened their management skills and in the process imbibed human values of empathy and understanding.

The partner organizations who benefited from this drive included Goonj, The Kahani Project, Macchli project and an NGO working with children of sex workers.  These toys which were mostly forgotten in the privileged homes of our students brightened up the faces of those little children who never dreamed of owning a toy. The twinkling eyes and broad smiles which the toys gifted will remain a cherished memory for all involved.
