World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every 5th June. This year’s host Canada chose the theme- ‘Connecting People to Nature’- in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator. The theme implores us to get outdoors and to nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share.
With reference to the Circular No.Acad-19/2017 dated 31/05/2017 by CBSE, the students of grades 6th to 10th enjoyed various activities last week when we reopened.
Grade VI- Preparing a Brochure
Students of grade VI prepared brochures of different medicinal and useful plants describing their importance and how they are helpful to us in many ways. The brochures were very illustrative, colourful and creative as well.
Grade VII- Pebble painting
Grade VII students painted pebbles of different shapes and sizes to create paper weights. From small to big, round to irregular, they converted the pebbles into bugs, fish or even cartoon characters. Every creation was unique and they loved expressing their creativity.
Grade VIII- Slogan Writing
The students wrote slogans to create awareness among everyone about the theme this year and also related to the other topics of environment viz. water and energy conservation, or saving trees or fuel.
Grade IX- Go Eco- Friendly
The IX graders prepared charts in groups to be displayed around in the school. Some also used ecofriendly materials and conveyed a message to “Go Green”.
Grade X- Green out of waste
X grade students’ reused old objects to convert it to green. Groups created innovative projects using an old pair of jeans, dustbin or even shoes and coconut shells to plant saplings. Some projects focused on drip irrigation while some used methods like hydroponics and capillary action.
Going back to nature and connecting with it is all about living as naturally as possible, making most of the natural resources and energy available.
For environment to change, there have to be small efforts made and each individual counts and can help in this initiative. So let us all join our hands to protect environment in saving the precious natural resources ensuring a healthy future.
Making simple modifications in our everyday life, we can all contribute to the cause of environment protection.
